The forecast rain stopped just in time for the most important game of walking Football this May bank holiday weekend 2015.
Some locally might have thought that the important bank holiday weekends football game was Morecombe V Southend United but alas, you would be wrong. The long awaited challenge walking football game between the Southend Puffers Club (for local sufferers of COPD) and Take Heart Southend (for local sufferers of Cardiac problems) took place at the PlayFootball Southend centre in Prittlewell Chase Westcliff on Sea. The Chase centre very generously donated the use of their pitch for this years Southend bank holiday charity football match.
In front of record crowds (well around 40!) the 1st half proved very tight. Nobody could call the game at this stage. With both teams breaking for tea (and oxygen) at half time, the score was level pegging at 2 – 2.
The second half produced a glut of goals from both sides with the Puffers going 8-6 up with 2 minutes to go. Then excitement built as a late flurry by Take Heart in the dying moments of stoppage time saw them score 2 more goals and the game finished with a well deserved draw at 8 all.
It was decided that Southend Puffers Club should retain the Ken Keefe Memorial Trophy. All who took part also received a medal.
A great big thank you to all your team for a really enjoyable hour of fun. I never thought kicking ball around could be so hard! We had a great time. Annie – Southend Puffers Club.
